Stockist Spotlight: Pearl's Patisserie

SWEET FOR MY SWEET...

• Could you please take a moment to introduce yourself to my readers who may not have come across your brand before....

Pearl’s Patisserie specialises in supplying bespoke, unique and, most importantly, delicious cakes & bakes across the East Midlands. Using your style and event as inspiration, we create beautiful cakes especially designed for you. From simply stunning wedding cakes to rustic birthday cakes, luxurious sweet tables to a box of pretty cupcakes, we cater for every occasion. It is important to us that our cakes are not “style over substance” and by using the best of ingredients, we guarantee our bakes tastes just as good as they look, if not better!

• When did Pearl's Patisserie get started as a business and what were the main ideas behind setting the business up?

Having, previously worked as an event planner and I always lusted over the beautiful wedding cakes and dreamt that one day I’d be able to turn my home baking into a these beautiful creations. I left that job after having my two children, Bertie and Persephone, and thought this was the perfect opportunity to “give it a go”. After lots of practice and some courses to teach me some of the tricks of the trade, I set up Pearl’s Patisserie which is, now, the newest baby in the family. I absolutely love that I have a job which allows me a great work / life balance and gives me the opportunity to be creative every day!

• Why did you decide to concentrate your efforts on the wedding industry?

I’ve always had a passion for shamelessly girly, gorgeous and glamorous things and the wedding industry is one of the few which asks for this in abundance – we’re the perfect match.

• Could you give us an idea of where you find the inspiration behind your work?

It never fails to amaze me how there is inspiration all around us if only you are tuned into it. For me, I can find ideas in anything from a piece of art, wallpaper at a friend’s house, flowers in the park.... And then, of course, there’s good old pinterest for if I am running dry! I, also, love to take inspiration from other aspects of the day – be it the lace on a bride’s dress, the flowers in her bouquet and all the quirky little details that each, individual couple have added into their special day.

• Which designs in your collection are your favourites and why would you choose these cakes over others?

Sequins sequins everywhere! My absolute favourite design (today!!) is my gold and pink sequin cake – it is so different and a real showstopper. A close runner up is this simple cake with cascading floral pinks and purple; slightly more traditional but very much on trend with a vintage feel.

• Do you have any tip for out brides to be on how to choose the perfect wedding cake?

Top tips for choosing the perfect wedding cake would be to tell your designer as much about the feel of your entire day – a good designer will use this to dream up something especially to compliment your wedding and make sure you adore your cake. Remember, wedding cakes do NOT have to be fruit or vanilla sponge – cake makers have lots of variety and you can have a different flavour for each tier so more unusual flavours can be tempered with something more traditional.... Top favourites from the Pearl’s Patisserie kitchen are sticky toffee cake with salted caramel buttercream and chocolate mud cake with a delicious Nutella buttercream.

• What are your thoughts on more modern takes on the traditional wedding cake such as cupcakes and cake pops?

Personally, I don’t think you can beat a beautiful 4 tier cake as a spectacular centre piece to the wedding reception – the grandeur and extravagance is something you rarely see at any other occasion. That said, cupcakes and cake pops can look wonderful when presented well and are definitely something a bit different from the norm...

• Some of your cakes look incredibly ornate... on average how long would it take to take to
make a wedding cake from discussing ideas with the bride and groom until the cake was being delivered to the venue?

The time is takes to create a cake from thinking up initial ideas to completion can greatly vary depending on the style and detail on the cake - Sugar craft is a skilled art and can be very time consuming.

• I love the sound of your sweet tables! Are there any combinations of sweet treats that you think work particularly well together?

Sweet tables are hugely trend at the moment and can be something really special! Lots of bite- size goodies arranged in a “help yourself” set up can be a really social and relaxed way of serving cake. Amaretto brownies are a firm favourite as well as fluffy marshmallows and the ever popular, macaroons make for a good mix of flavours and textures.

• What are you hoping to achieve in the next 12 months?

As a relatively new company, I hope to cement my place on the East Midland’s wedding scene and grow a reputation for beautiful looking and tasting cakes – that’s what it is all about!
