      Please introduce yourself to my readers – who are you and what do you do?
      My Name is Sharon and I am the founder and owner of Sadie May Cakes. I am often called Sadie! which is the business name....Sadie May has a family connection, Sadie being my great Nana and May is the middle name of my husbands Mum and Nan....all passing the baking bug onto me. I love baking and creating beautiful cakes and seeing the smiles they create. I have a creative design degree and have always loved art and design, leaving a successful career in marketing was pretty scary to fulfill my dream of working for myself, but its the best decision I have ever made. 
      When did Sadie May Cakes get started as a business and what were the main ideas behind setting the business up?
       Sadie May Cakes was launched in November 2011 with the aim to create beautiful cakes that make dreams come true, but be affordable. 

      Why did you decide to enter the wedding industry? 
      Working in the wedding industry is a delight and I have chosen to specialise in wedding cakes. Its just such a privilege when a bride and groom choose you to be apart of their special day and the excitement oozing from them and their families is just addictive! 

      Can you tell us what inspires you as a designer?
       I seek inspiration from pretty flowers, patterns and I love looking at historic fashion and beauty icons. 

      Could you share with us some of your favourite pieces of your work? What makes them your top picks? 
      I love it when a couple completely trust me to create their dream wedding cake and can see that its a 'Sadie May Cake' My favourites this summer have to be the cakes with lots of flowers...I just love making the flowers!


      Do you have any advice for our brides to be on choosing their wedding cake?
       My advice is to have an open mind when discussing your ideas with your cake designer...its great to discuss what style you have, your themes, colours and above all...be open to fresh ideas. 

       Do you have any secret baking tips that we can steal?
       For the best flavour, always use the best ingredients, use more eggs for a rich, moist cake. 

      People are getting pretty creative with wedding cake flavours these days - from peanut butter to pistachio! Which flavours and frostings do you stock? Which is your favourite combination? 
      One of the flavours that stands out from my collection at the moment is Pink Champagne...yes girls you can even have champagne in your cake! and its delicious!

      Do you have any projects in the pipeline that you would like to share with us?
       I have introduced a new venture to the business, designing and making bespoke cake toppers...its an exciting time for Sadie May Cakes! I am also looking forward to working with Middleton Lodge and Seaham Hall as a preferred supplier this coming year.


      Sadie May Cakes won The Best New Wedding Business Award at The North of England Wedding Awards - Congratulations! What are you hoping to achieve in 2015? 
      I hope to continue to be as successful and to go above and beyond my clients expectations. Nothing beats getting a message from the bride at 3am on the wedding day saying their cake is beautiful and thanking me..!

      Do you have any words of wisdom for anyone who is thinking of setting up their own business in the wedding industry? 
      enjoy it and stick to your values and ideas, that way you will stand out to the type of clients that suit your style.
