Stockist Spotlight: Mrs W Tutus

MRS W TUTUS

Please could you give a brief introduction on yourself and your company to my readers who may not have come across you before…
I'm Kate, Head Creative Lady at Mrs W Tutus - Mummy to my in-house modelling team (who are 9, 7 & nearly 5), Wife to Mr W & Keeper of Mr Spaniel. When I'm not busy looking after them, I can be found making Tutus, Tutu Dresses, Tulle Crowns & Wands for Bridesmaids, Flower Girls & Fairy Princesses everywhere!

How did your business get started and what were the ideas behind it?
A change in circumstances meant that I needed to do something from Home, still allowing me time to do the school & Ballet runs - my Degree is a BA (Hons) in Fashion so I have been sewing for a number of years now, so that seemed a logical place to start! My in-house modelling team are all Girly girls who love to dress up and things seemed to spiral from there - i realised that I would love to make things that they could twirl round the House/Garden in so I set to figuring designs out and making prototypes!

Why did you choose to focus on weddings?
The Tutu market is already pretty flooded with things for Dressing up & creative play, but I saw an opening for gloriously over the top Tutus & Tutu Dresses that I felt would be the perfect addition to ranges already available for Little Bridesmaids

What inspires you as a designer?
Truthfully, my Girls are my biggest inspiration (and harshest critics!) - I watch them play, dress up, create imaginary worlds and characters and I simply aim to create magical outfits that I know they would be incredibly excited to wear!

Can you tell us your three favourite designs and why they are your top picks?
My 3 favourite designs are the Taffeta Princess, the Bustle Streamers Tutu Dress and the Pommander Fairy Tutu Dress because, to me, they truly are the sort of Dress that little girls dream about owning/wearing one day. All of these Dresses are brilliantly versatile - they can be made in very traditional colours or you can choose to combine a number of colours to create something truly unique to you.

You are able to provide bespoke designs for your customers – could you give us some more information about what a customer might expect during the bespoke process from first making contact to receiving their design?
In the first instance, we would have a chat about your ideas  - which of my styles do you like, which features to you want to add/include and the sorts of colour you had in mind. If you wanted something very unique then I would also look to draw some designs for you to look at before starting work. I would then gather and send Tulle/Fabric samples out to you for approval (or for you to come to my work room and see if you preferred!). Once we have agreed the final design and materials, I will get to work turning your ideas into a reality - there is ALWAYS scope to make changes and adjustments as we go along though, so you should never be afraid to ask!
The whole process usually takes about 3 weeks, sometimes longer if it a particularly intricate design - equally, if you needed a dress in a hurry, I would do everything I could to help!

I love the adorable tulle crowns and tulle wands that you stock. Have you found that being a mother yourself of three girls has helped? and do you ever ask your girls for feedback on your work?
As I mentioned previously, my Girls are my greatest inspiration and I genuinely believe that being the Mummy of Girls has helped me a lot - they are my in-house modelling Team and feature in the majority of my pictures! They are generally the people I show new creations to 1st and I gauge any changes I might make on their reactions!

Are there any future projects in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
I'm currently working on a range of Fluffy underskirts for under Tea length Wedding dresses and Vintage style Bridesmaids Dresses. I nearly always have a new Little Princess dress in the pipeline so it's worth keeping an eye on FB, Twitter and my own website for updates and pictures!

Do you have any goals or aspirations for your company in 2015?
I would really love to be able to get Mrs W Tutus stocked in some of the truly amazing independent Bridal Boutiques we have in this country. I simply hope to see it go from strength to strength and to continue to be able to make little Girls feel like Princesses!

Do you have any tips for anybody thinking of setting up their own business?
You can never do too much research!! Good things take time to develop and grow so try not to become disheartened if things are moving slower than you may have 1st hoped - if you have done your research and worked hard to build a solid foundation then there is no reason you won't be successful!
