Wedding Lingerie: Gorgeous Garters

In honour of National Underwear Day, we  are continuing with the lingerie theme and bringing you the most gorgeous garters available for your wedding day. It is a Western tradition for brides to wear a wedding garter on their special day, traditionally removed by the groom towards the end of the wedding reception. Hundred of years ago in the Middle Ages - men at the wedding would rush at the bride to take the new garter as a prize as a piece of the new brides clothing was seen as lucky. Nowadays - the garter is thrown by the groom to the unmarried male guests at the same time as the bouquet throw by the Bride - the lucky two who catch the prizes will apparently be the next to wed (not necessarily to eachother!). Some take the tradition further with the lucky man who caught the garter placing it on the leg of the woman who caught the bouquet- they then take to the floor for the next dance.

This is one of my favourites from Mabelicious Bridal and is a bargain at only £18.50. The Simply Lace garter is a vintage pearl and diamanté design. The beautiful packaging makes this garter a great gift to a bride from her bridesmaids or husband to be. See more at  www.mabelicious.co.uk

I love this pretty Cosette garter by Laura George. This delicate  diamanté handmade design looks gorgeous against the soft  tullle. This garter is available in ivory and white and retails at £40. Check out the rest of the lovely collection at Laura George (www.laurageorge.co.uk)

This Vintage Rye Bridal Garter from Just For Eve (Justforeve.co.uk) is stunning. If you are still looking for your something blue then this could be the piece you are looking for. This beautiful vintage ivory lace against the pale blue satin looks very chic and is the small pearl detail complete the looks. Just For Eve stocks a number of other garters and bridal knickers. This garter retails at £32.

I love this Mamie lace wedding garter available from The Wedding Garter Company (www.weddinggarterco.com) retailing at £74. This style screams Gatsby bride to me and would complete a 1920's wedding outfit perfectly. The row of ivory pearls makes this garter a luxurious looking design. There are a number of other stylish garters available is gorgeous shades of white, ivory, blue and lilac. The packaging from this company, as seen below, also looks divine.

I know that I featured this Alan Hannah Crystal Garter from Debenhams in my last post - but I have to feature it again in a post named gorgeous garters - it would be rude not to! It is such a pleasure to look at and is a bargain in my opinion at £30!

I think that this  Lola garter by Debbie Carlisle (www.dcbouquets.co.uk) is a piece of art! I think that tulle looks delicate and soft next to the vintage diamante and the pearl detailing is to die for. This is another great option for the art deco bride. Prices start at £40

I love this stunning Somerset by Alice Temperley Gatsby Bridal Garter from John Lewis - which retails at only £20. This is a simple classic ivory lacedesign which is a timeless lingerie piece.

This garter is a steal from Boux Avenue at only £10. If you are looking to save some pennies when shopping for your lingerie then why not choose this option? The little blue rose detailing is a cute finishing touch to this simple lace garter.

This is one of my favourite garters - the Freya lace garter by Chez Bec (www.chezbec.com). This is an open leg design  made with French lace and floral appliqué. I think that the garters at Chez Bec will stand the test of time - you could pass this on to your daughter in the future as a "something old" for her own wedding. This garter is available from notonthehighstreet.com and retails at £47

Another one of my favourites from Chez Bec is this stunning Boudoir Bow Lace garter design - simple, elegant and classic. The packaging is gorgeous too - meaning that you can store your garter safely for years to come. This garter is available from chezbec.com and retails at £36.
